TV Guide (EPG) Not Loading: Fixes That Actually Help

A blank TV guide does not always mean your channels are broken. The electronic program guide (EPG) is separate schedule data, so live TV may play while listings say “No information.” Start by refreshing the guide, then check its data source, channel matching, and time settings. The right fix depends on whether you watch through an IPTV app, a TV’s built-in tuner, or a set-top box.

Identify the symptom first

If every channel is blank, suspect a failed download, an incorrect EPG source, or an app-wide problem. If only a few channels are blank, the guide may lack those listings or the channels may be mapped incorrectly. If programs appear at the wrong hour, check the clock and guide time offset. If the guide works on one device but not another, focus on that device.

A cable or satellite box has its own guide; your TV’s built-in guide will not necessarily show listings for channels viewed through that box. For antenna channels, use the TV input and its channel guide.

Refresh the guide and restart the device

Look in your player’s EPG, TV Guide, or playlist settings for Refresh, Update, or Reload. Let the download finish before judging the result. Then close the app fully and reopen it. A device restart can clear a stalled background process.

For an IPTV playlist, refresh the channel list too if your provider has changed channel identifiers. In Kodi, clearing PVR data can force a fresh import of channels and guide information. Menu names vary, so choose the option that rebuilds guide data without deleting your account or playlist.

Check the connection and EPG source

A stream and its schedule can come from different servers. Playing channels therefore does not prove the guide feed is reachable. Check that the device is online, then try loading the guide again. If other internet services also fail, restart your router.

If your app asks for an EPG URL or XMLTV source, confirm that the address is complete, current, and entered in the guide field rather than the playlist field. Recopy it from your service details if necessary. A feed containing no current programs will still leave the grid empty. If the provider supplies the guide automatically, an unrelated feed may not match its channel lineup.

Fix missing listings on individual channels

When only certain rows show “No information,” compare their channel names or IDs with the EPG mapping in your app. Many playlist players use a channel identifier to pair a stream with its schedule. A renamed channel, duplicate name, or mismatched ID can break that pairing while video still plays.

If your app offers manual mapping, assign the affected channel to the correct listing and refresh the guide. Check regional versions, such as east and west feeds, because a plausible match may show the wrong schedule. Some channels have no supplied program data. Refreshing cannot create listings that the source does not include.

Correct listings that show the wrong time

Set the device’s date, time, and time zone correctly, preferably using automatic time when it works reliably. Then check whether your player has an EPG time shift or offset. An unnecessary offset can move an accurate schedule by several hours. Return it to zero, then compare a known live program with the displayed slot.

If only one channel is shifted, inspect its mapping before applying a global correction. If the error appears around a daylight saving change, refresh the guide after confirming the time zone. Report incorrect feed timestamps to the guide provider rather than repeatedly changing your offset.

Clear temporary data and update the app

If the source and mapping look right, clear the app’s cache and reopen it. Cache removal usually targets temporary files, but “Clear data” or reinstalling may erase sign-ins, playlists, and custom mappings. Save your configuration before taking either step.

Install available updates for the TV, streaming device, and player. If one app fails while the same guide works elsewhere, its settings or stored data are a stronger suspect. Re-enter the EPG source after checking for a typing error or expired access details.

If you use an antenna or set-top box

For an antenna connected directly to a TV, confirm that the source is set to TV and the antenna cable is secure. If channels themselves are missing, run the TV’s channel scan or auto tuning. Check reception if picture and sound break up. Scanning applies to the TV’s tuner, not channels delivered through an external box.

For a set-top box, use its guide controls and restart the box according to the provider’s instructions. If the guide stays empty across all channels and other boxes in the home show the same problem, contact the service provider.

When to ask for help

Send support the device and app model, whether channels play, which channels lack listings, and whether the issue affects one device or all of them. Mention any error message and the steps already tried. These details help separate a device fault from an unavailable guide feed.
